What is it?

Coverage where you can’t see it, but others can

The crown is where your hair grows out in a swirl, so it needs careful planning to look natural. Grafts are placed to follow that pattern, building coverage from the centre outwards.

Because crown thinning can keep progressing, your surgeon will look at your long-term pattern and talk you through whether to treat the crown on its own, alongside your hairline, or with non-surgical treatment first.

  • Planned for the long termWe look at how your hair loss may develop before we recommend anything.
  • Follows your natural swirlGrafts are angled to match the way the hair at your crown grows.
  • Fixed price, agreed upfrontNo per-graft charges. You know your full cost before you book.

How it works

Suitability

Is a crown transplant right for you?

It works best when the thinning is in a clear area and you have enough donor hair to cover it now and in the future. Your consultation confirms it, and if it’s not the right step yet, we’ll tell you.

Usually a good fit

  • Thinning at the crownWhere you can see scalp through the hair.
  • Good density at the back and sidesYour donor area supplies the grafts.
  • Settled or slow hair lossEasier to plan a result that lasts.
  • Hairline recession tooBoth areas can be planned together.

May not suit you yet

  • Thinning all overIncluding the donor area, so there’s less hair to move.
  • Patchy hair lossSuch as alopecia areata, which is treated differently.
  • Fast hair loss under 25Usually best to slow it down first.
  • An untreated medical causeWe’ll check for this at your assessment.

If your crown is still thinning quickly, non-surgical treatment first can give a better long-term result.

FUE vs FUT

FUE, done properly

FUE and FUT both move donor hair to thinning areas. The difference is who plans it, how it’s priced and who looks after you afterwards: UK surgeons, a CQC-registered clinic and aftercare on your doorstep, not a flight away.

I came to Aventus Clinic a year ago for my hair transplant and it was an amazing experience. The team made me feel supported every step of the way, alongside follow up reviews to check my progress. Fantastic experience, I cannot recommend enough.

I finally decided to bite the bullet this Spring and look at hair transplants to repair the fast fading top/front of my hair (also some crown loss) and decided on Aventus. My initial query on 31st Jan was followed up by a call back within 5 minutes and an initial appointment for the 2nd week of Feb. After which, receiving full details of what would be undertaken, the price and my decision to go ahead I was booked in for the first week of April. The procedure was undertaken by the very professional staff at Aventus and I was given all necessary aftercare treatments needed and routine aftercare contact which helped a lot. Now almost 8 months after the treatment I have a full head of hair which I have treated to it's first new hairstyle in almost 20 years. 100% recommend Dr Alam and his team at Aventus (I had written a much longer review with lots of details [over 2 pages] but Google said Too Long) I have told Aventus that I am happy to speak to anyone they have who is considering such a procedure but is nervous, so give them a call and ask 🙂 I truely feel like a different person both in hair and confidence.

If you're thinking about getting a transplant then I would definitely recommend Aventus clinic. The staff are lovely and friendly and they do a good job of getting you calm and safe. I had over 4000 grafts and the whole process was easy and professional.

I had a hair transplant back in October 2024 and researched extensively before choosing where to go. I know someone that went to Turkey and to be honest you can’t even notice an improvement so I suggest to anyone thinking of it, pay the price here or pay twice. I can’t recommend this place enough. The results are phenomenal from the procedure. I had my front hairline done and will be back if my crown ever starts to thin. 10/10.

I didn't use Aventus, I contacted them to see if they can help with my norwood 7 hairloss. The guy who contacted me was genuinely trying to help me with advice and to point me in the right direction. He made enquiries for me and got back to me quickly. Even though they couldn't help me as my donor area doesn't have enough hair, he still tried his very best to assist me even though I wouldn't be using their service. He was genuinely trying to help and I appreciated that.

Longevity

How long does a hair transplant last?

Hair at the back and sides of your head is usually resistant to DHT, the hormone behind male pattern hair loss. Transplanted follicles tend to keep that resistance in their new position, so the hair is generally long-lasting.

Your existing hair, though, can keep thinning over time. That’s why your surgeon plans your hairline for how you’ll look in ten or twenty years, not just next year, and may suggest treatment to help protect the hair you already have.

We’ll talk through this honestly at your assessment, including whether you might want a second procedure in future.

Grafts

How many grafts will you need?

It depends mainly on how much of your scalp needs covering. Pick the pattern closest to yours for a typical range. Your exact count is confirmed at your assessment.

Crown transplant FAQs

Common questions about crown transplants at our Hitchin clinic.

Can’t see your question? Call 01462 512166.

Is a crown transplant harder than a hairline?

The crown takes more planning because of the way hair swirls there, and it can need more grafts to look full. Your surgeon will explain what’s realistic for you.

Can I have my crown and hairline done together?

Often, yes, if you have enough donor hair. Your surgeon will plan the areas and graft numbers with you at your assessment.

When will I see results at the crown?

Crown results can take a little longer to show than the hairline. Most people see a clear change from around month 6, with the final result at 12 to 18 months.

Should I try non-surgical treatment first?

If your crown is still thinning quickly, slowing it down first can give a better long-term result. We offer non-surgical options and will advise what’s right for you.

Still unsure? That’s normal.
